Not so Bad, Not so Ba-a-ad

Things got better shortly after my morning post. I eventually woke up and got several new tasks to keep me busy. Spent a few hours getting production records ready to send to storage then worked process flows. Not exciting stuff but it was new and the time passed pretty quickly. Today I’ve got more of the storage prep and lots of process flow type stuff. I’ve got to the finish the one I started yesterday then work on creating a few others. Again, not exciting but it should be time to go home before I know it. Plus I have the option of free lunch at some new hire thing (yay for being an intern – you’re considered a new hire every time you return from school).

My parents left last night. I enjoyed their time here but it had gotten to the point where I was out of ideas for what they could do and I was longing for some time to myself. We’ll see them next in Florida for Christmas.

Saturday we leave for a whirlwind tour of the Mid-Atlantic states. Seeing family in Baltimore, Philly for King Tut/meeting up with Brianna, Steph’s wedding, Fell’s Point with Maegan and Jeremy, steamed crabs, and Restaurant Week. It’ll be fun but not exactly a vacation with all of the running around we’ll be doing. Yes, I will take far too many photos and post a link to them upon my return. May even snap some at the airport if the mood strikes me.

I’m hoping to hit a few yarn stores on our trip though I really don’t need any more yarn. I’ve got a thing of Cascade 200 and a thing of Koigu that have no purpose chosen yet. Plus there’s the dishcloth yarn that has a purpose but hasn’t been touched. Must remember to pick up Mason Dixon knitting from the library this afternoon. Note to self: Take photos of newly acquired stash and WIPs (and FOs if I finish Calorimetry) upon return.

One final note: it’s a very small world. I got added by someone on Ravelry who was a fellow knitting engineer. Cool, I thought, I’m not alone. Then I got a message informing me that this user was Anastasia. She goes to the same school as my husband, participates in FIRST, and is involved with SWE. I actually ran into her at the SWE national conference a few years ago in Anaheim. I’ve always admired her knitting, especially when she worked on it during FIRST meetings while still paying attention to the discussion. Very happy to have gotten in touch with her again. (Hi, Anastasia!)

Post title comes from a Dido song, if you were curious.

Baseball

My dad loves baseball yet rarely gets a chance to go to a game. So we decided to take him to an Angels game during his visit, a very late Father’s Day gift. Joe and Greg joined us, too. After a healthy dinner of In-n-Out we headed to Anaheim for the 7:05 game.

I worked on knitting (Calorimetry for my mom) until about the fourth inning then I switched to actually paying attention to what was happening on the field. Sadly the Angels lost 4 to 3 to the Oakland A’s but we all had a great time.

Shoe Field (july 24)

Did I mention it was dollar hot dog night?

Knitting and Hotdog

Ma’am, you have what we call Startitis

Starting a new project is always weird for me. I rarely see things to completion that aren’t required. Things like quilts, cross stitch projects, Project 365 rarely get done whereas I’m required to finish homework or projects at work. And even finishing those requires pressure be applied by others. I lose focus, mojo, enthusiasm, whatever you want to call it.

Example one: Project 365

I did really well when I first started on April 1st. The first missed day was in late May, the day I got up, went to work (no cameras allowed there), and was in bed basically until I went to sleep for the night. Major tooth pain. In June I missed something like ten days. In July I’ve maybe taken ten photos total. I still found things I wanted to take photos of but they were work stuff, not things I could legally show the public (sounds like I do such exciting, spy-like things, huh?). Stuff like Roy and Frank fighting over how to do a test procedure or the piece of paper Armando accidentally dropped inside a test station. I still brought my camera with me to special events and fun places and snapped tons of photos. It’s just the photo-a-day thing that’s gone by the wayside.

But I must remember why I started in the first place, to record my life and to take more photos. I think that’s been accomplished.

(insert here nine hours during which I went to Knott’s Berry Farm)

Example two: Various craft projects

No words needed. Just the fact I have the following WIPs: 1 quilting, 2 sewing, 4 knitting, 3 cross stitch.

Example three: Writing daily

I’m great about keeping up with this for 40 or so days at a time or until I go on vacation or get a new journal.

Why do I mention this here and now? Because this is a new blog. I am going to bring over a bunch of entries from Vox but I’m basically starting over, again. Let’s all hope I can keep up with it!

My friend, Amy, was about to leave for Germany for a year and I decided to make her something. I saw the Calorimetry pattern on Knitty and decided it would be perfect. I cast on a week and a half before she left the states. I’m not sure if she wears it but I know it’s with her in Germany.
