“You should blog more!”

When a postcard tells you do to something, you should to do it. Especially when it comes from a friend who you haven’t seen in over three years, yet still takes the time every single year to send you a Christmas card. So, here you go, Sarah, I’m going to try to be a better blogger. I can’t promise quality, but quantity is likely to improve.

1. School: I’ve got two exams, a presentation, and proposal between me and the end of the semester. Things have gone really well overall so I’m expecting pretty high grades. Next year brings my final seven classes which are spread out over the two semesters and, most importantly, my senior design project. My friends and I talk about senior design on a daily basis. Who will be in our groups? Who will decide who is in each group? What will our projects be? Just how long will we be in lab every day? Will we win the UVA and Westpoint competitions like this year’s teams did? What will the new professor be like? I try not think about it, but it’s hard not to. It’s the most important thing standing between me and (finally!) graduation. The end is in sight, at long last.

2. Running: I’m now on week 5 of my official training program and things are going pretty well. The Sunday group runs are great (though I missed today and will miss next week’s) and the weekday runs aren’t too bad as they’re only 30 minutes of run/walk. I have had some problems adjusting to the heat and humidity of summer but I should either get used to it over time or mentally prepare myself for the necessity of running just after dawn. Hopefully there will be enough cool days like today and no 90 degrees before 8 am days. I keep telling everyone I encounter that I’m doing this and so far only one person doesn’t think I can do it. Sure, people are surprised to learn the chubby girl is a runner but, whatever, that’s their problem.

3. Knitting: Even though I feel like I’ve had all this free time lately, I haven’t been doing that much knitting. Since I last blogged I finished a pair of socks for Ashley, Alison, and Lesley and am just about done with a pair for Veronica. Of course, I haven’t remembered to take an FO pic of any of them, so you only get some WIP shots. I also made most of a sweater for myself but it’s really hard to convince yourself seaming up a final piece is required when it’s 80 degrees out. I’ll finish it and get some pictures taken of that later (maybe in time for my next blog post).

4. Crochet: Surprised to see this on the list, huh? Well, last weekend I picked up some cheap mercerized cotton and a crochet hook on a whim and starting playing around with it. Now, I’ve got a good two feet of a scarf done in a really neat crochet motif called Queen Anne’s Lace (and purchased two crochet books from Amazon). I certainly don’t plan on stopping knitting anytime soon but it’s nice to no longer feel like I’m deficient because I can’t do basic crochet.
