I try to avoid telling people that they "should" do something or another. Consider colorwork, of course, but some fiber artists go more for texture and patterns (e.g., cables) than colorwork! I've done both and while I come from a family of Norwegian knitters (the kind that live in Norway) and, of course, colorwork is endemic to that style of knitting, I think I prefer monocolor with amazing patterning (e.g., cables, etc.).

Ironically enough, I started knitting away on a lace shawl yesterday afternoon. I think I just need to realize I don't like knitting in non-fingering or laceweight and give up my DK/Worsted/Bulky stash. It doesn't get nearly cool enough for all that.

Yeah, I realized that about Ida's Kitchen after I'd already done the pretty mosaic. Oops!

I think I'm going to toss the two DK's I have in my bag this weekend and play around with it. Who knows - maybe they're not too similar. (They're Vintage DK in the colorways Breezeway and Pumpkin. Shade card is here.)

Good call! I was about to reply: "Not a sweater or blanket! At least not first!" but you seem to be on the same wavelength. Also you can totally do a sweater or blanket first, and the two with colorwork on the yoke only seem great. Okay, now I think I recommend Plum Forest since it's bottom up. I think Ida's Kitchen is actually stripes but shaped, and I love From Norway with Love and Whale Watch Hat.

I'm no help at all, aren't I?
